Food & Drink
Artisan food production is alive and well in the Lakes.
The national movement back to local food has reached this corner of England. Along with the classics of Grasmere Ginger Bread, Cumberland Sausage and Kendal Mintcake the chutney scene is thriving. I can highly recommend the award winning Hawkshead Relishes and Demels Sri Lankan chutneys for starters.
Taste Cumbria Food Festival
Now in its second year, Taste Cumbria is a two-day feast of all things foodie for the whole family. Set in the heart of Cockermouth – the annual food festival, which launched to record numbers of visitors last year boasts a bustling traditional farmers' market, demonstrations from celebrity chefs, along with the area's very best culinary talent, informative master classes and workshops from Cumbrian food heroes, live music and street entertainment, plus an interactive children's area where budding Jamies and Nigellas can learn about food production, simple recipes and healthy eating. This years Food Festival is to be held 24th & 25th September. Why not book a long weekend and give your taste buds a treat?
