A grand day out in the Lakes
Fancy a change from the boat one weekend? Getting out into the Lakes on some classic lakeland trails and stopping for lunch in a traditional pub?
A couple of us took a trip out last week with Nick and his 'Men of Kankku' - a brilliant day off-road driving around the Lakes. Through the forest in Grizedale, over to the south end of Coniston and then up Parkamoor before lunch in the Church House at Torver. Back to Windermere was through the tracks of Tilberthwaite and Elterwater.
The routes are fantastic - challenging to drive and great fun with the guidance of Nick's instructors. All on rock and bedrock too so not damaging to the landscape.
The guys are based up in Windermere by Booths (you can't miss them!).
A great day out.
Dates for the diary...
We are looking forward to the start of the new season here at WMV and are getting organised with some dates for the summer months.
Our sailing regatta dates are confirmed as follows:
- April 28th
- May 26th
- July 7th
- September 8th
- September 29th
If you love your sailing the regattas are a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Two other big dates for the lake are the Olympic Torch and the Great North Swim. The Torch is due to head down the lake with Windermere Lake Cruises on June 21st and the Great North Swim takes place over 3 days this year, June 22nd - 24th.
We are planning on another Garden Party again this summer and the date for this is Saturday July 28th. I'm sure a hog-roast will pop-up at some point too and we will confirm a date for this nearer the time.
It's been a cold couple of days - fantastic winter weather in the Lakes. Make sure your heaters are on and your engines are winterized...

Building developments update
We've got a newsletter coming out in the next few days but for those who follow the blog and the tweets, this is the update on the building works...
It’s been a little while since we gave you an update on progress with the new building developments at WMV but things are continuing to move forward; albeit slower than we had hoped. Some technical issues, which we have now resolved, delayed the tendering process but this got underway in December and tenders are due back with us at the beginning of February. As soon as a contractor has been appointed we will be able to confirm a start date and an expected completion date.
We are also in discussions with local operators for the new bar and restaurant to ensure a team is in place and ready to go as soon as the development is complete. We will keep you updated...
We are pleased to say Jonny will be continuing with the ‘Lakeside Grill’ this season and his opening times are posted by the cabin and updated on twitter and the blog with any changes.
DanHappy New Year
We hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year and best wishes to you all for 2012.
The festive period was very wet and windy in the Lakes but it was great to see so many of you at the Marina. After the rain and gales of the last week or two, the weather seems to have entered in to a slightly more settled period for now - I'll be keeping the tweets updated with any changes.
If you are visiting the London Boat Show keep a look out for Shepherds on the Sealine stand and I will be visiting the show for the last few days later in the week. Maybe see you there...

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas from all of us at WMV - we hope you have a great time over the festive period and look forward to seeing you in the New Year (or before!).
The office at WMV will be closed on Christmas day and Boxing day only. We have staff on site both days, who will be checking the boats, and can be contacted if needed by phone. The number will be displayed on the door of reception whilst they are on duty.
We are open as normal from Tuesday 27th December.
Shepherds Marine re-open fully on Tuesday 3rd January and will also be in the office on December 30th and 31st and January 2nd.
The water level in the marina is around a foot below the jetties at the moment and we will update with any changes.
Many thanks for all the Christmas wishes, cards, bottles, biscuits, chocolates and mince pies...they have been much appreciated by us all!
Have a great one!
Dan & the WMV team.
